About Allison Jane Smith

I'm a freelance writer, editor and communications consultant. I write and edit for government agencies, think tanks, and non-profit organizations in Canada and around the world. I also write critical and personal essays, and the occasional reported piece.

For two years, I was an editor at WhyDev, a thought leader in the international development community, and my writing has been featured in The Washington Post, The Ottawa Citizen, Salon, and Matador Network, among others.

Originally from Manitoba, Canada, I now split my time between Toronto and Cambodia, after a seven-year stopover in Ottawa and a few years in Malaysia.

Moving between different places and cultures helps me generate fresh ideas, as does having one foot in the world of corporate communications and another in the world of literary writing.
